Terms of use

Copyrighted is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA). These terms add details about purchases, your use of the app and this website. Where they differ, the Standard EULA governs the app licence.

Copyrighted is free to download. Its free features and the free allowance of 50 stamped photos per device need no purchase. Copyrighted Pro removes the limit and is offered in two forms:

• Pro · Lifetime: a one-time, non-consumable purchase.
• Pro · Yearly: an auto-renewing subscription for one year at a time.

Billing is handled by Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. The yearly subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends, and your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before then. You can manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

Both purchases are Universal Purchases, available on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account, and both support Family Sharing. Prices are set in the App Store and may vary by country. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies.

Copyrighted writes what you tell it to write. You are responsible for it.

• Stamp only photos you own or have permission to label, with information that is accurate.
• The app can't verify who owns a photo. A group such as Matches you reflects what a photo's metadata says, compared with your own profiles.
• Remove or change copyright information only on photos you have the right to change. Removing or altering copyright management information can have legal consequences in some jurisdictions, for example under section 1202 of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Copyrighted reads and writes metadata in image files. It doesn't give legal advice, register copyright, or guarantee that anyone else will read, keep or honour the metadata in your photos. Many services remove metadata on upload.

The app is built to protect your files: it doesn't re-encode images, records each change before making it, verifies each write, and lets you undo batches. Even so, keep your own backups of photos that matter to you, as you would with any software that changes files.

To the extent the law allows, the app and this website are provided as they are, without warranties beyond those in the Standard EULA, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from their use. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law where you live that can't be limited by agreement.

copyrighted.app, including its articles and the copyright checker, is provided for general information. The articles explain what photo metadata does; they are not legal advice. The checker runs in your browser, reports what a file's metadata says, and doesn't establish who owns a photo.
